Booster shots now available at clinics in Monroe County

ROCHESTER, NY – As pharmaceutical companies strive to gain full approval for their COVID-19 vaccines, those who are immunocompromised are being eliminated and encouraged to start receiving booster shots.

Monroe County Director Adam Bello announced at a town hall earlier this week that residents can now get these boosters at any clinic in the county. The Rochester Fleet Center is one of those places where the county operates a vaccination clinic.

Eligible New Yorkers can receive the booster at least 28 days after being fully immunized for the first time. People who are immunocompromised include those receiving cancer treatment, those who have had an organ transplant, and those who have moderate to severe immunodeficiency.

The county has nearly two dozen vaccination clinics in the community and will be held at upcoming events. People can keep an eye out for those on the county website where you can register for a vaccination or reminder appointment.

Earlier this week, Pfizer received full FDA approval for its vaccine, and the company is now working on its recall approval. He’s also working to get it officially licensed by the CDC for people 16 and older.

US surgeon general Dr Vivek Murthy said health officials were working on it.

“There are two things that don’t change,” Dr Murthy said. “One is that if you are not vaccinated, getting vaccinated now with one of the three vaccines is still your fastest path to protection against hospitalization and death from the virus. The other thing that is does not change is the plan we announced last week, which is the week of September 20, pending review by the FDA and CDC advisory committee, we plan to start the booster injections, the third injections for those who receive the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. “

Again, booster shots are only available for people who are immunocompromised.

Johnson & Johnson says it is also working on a recall. The company says data shows that people who received booster shots six to eight months after their initial dose built up nine times more antibodies than a month after the first injection.
