County-by-county look at COVID-19 in Virginia; which areas experienced the biggest jumps on Friday, August 27, 2021

RICHMOND, Virginia – The health department reported an additional 20,573 people tested positive for COVID-19 out of the total 250,667 tests processed over the past week. That brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Virginia to 754,652.

As of Friday’s update, 33,344 (+674 from the previous Friday) people had been hospitalized and 11,769 (+122) people had died from COVID-19-related illnesses, according to the update Virginia Department of Health (VDH) data.

Who falls ill

The coronavirus first affected people aged 50 to 69, which currently accounts for nearly 24% of cases in Virginia.

However, people in their 20s now account for 19.5% of cases in the state.

In addition, people between the ages of 30 and 49 account for 31.3% of cases, according to the data.

And statistics show that children and adolescents account for 16.8% of cases.

More women have been infected with the virus with 388,731 cases compared to 360,293 cases reported among men. No sex has been reported for 5,628 cases in the Commonwealth.

COVID-19 vaccines are effective in protecting you against the disease. Based on what we know Regarding COVID-19 vaccines, people who have been fully vaccinated may start to do certain things that they had stopped doing due to the pandemic.

We are still learning how vaccines will affect the spread of COVID-19. After you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you should continue to take precautions– like wearing a mask, staying 6 feet from each other, and avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces – in public places until we know more.

These recommendations can help you make decisions about your daily activities after you are fully immunized.
