NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced this morning at 11 a.m. that in the 24-hour period to 8 p.m. last night there had been a record 1,218 cases of community transmission and six families who have lost a loved one.
While she didn’t say these were record numbers, they are.
However, the Prime Minister announced the record weekly number in New South Wales of 834,000 people vaccinated. “It’s an exceptional result. He broke all of our records. And I can’t thank everyone enough for coming to get vaccinated.
Additional freedoms
In a comment that sounded like a promise to inmates, the prime minister said that due to the number of jabs, and the 65% of the population who received at least one dose, and the 35% of the population who are fully vaccinated, the state is halfway to this magic number of 70% … “in order to have these additional freedoms”.
From the NSW Department of Health, Dr Jeremy McAnulty said it was fantastic to see ever increasing vaccination rates across the state. “It’s very important for us to conquer this, to live with COVID.
“With the numbers, there were 1,218 locally acquired cases from New South Wales reported within 24 hours to 8pm last night. In addition, there were three cases acquired abroad. There were 106,038 tests reported as of 8 p.m. last night, up from a total of 129,182 tests the previous day.
“Unfortunately, we are seeing a large number of people hospitalized with COVID. 813 people are currently admitted with COVID to NSW hospitals, including 126 in intensive care and 54 who required ventilation.
Of these 126, 113 were not vaccinated and 12 had received a dose of the vaccine.
Positive fragments in the sewage of Byron
Dr McAnulty says the ongoing sewage monitoring system has detected additional or positive fragments, in some places where we have not identified cases in the NSW region. These include Trangi, just west of Dubbo, Byron Bay on the north coast, Cooma and Tamworth.
“We are concerned that there may be unrecognized cases in these communities, so please come for a test if you have even the mildest of symptoms.”
