Sydney lockdown: Waverley construction site fined for violation of Covid-19 rules

Police stopped to speak to three workers at the Bronte Rd site in Waverley who were not wearing face masks around 11 a.m. Thursday and found the men were all from Sydney local government areas of concern.

The men were then unable to show police any work permits or proof that they had all received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

“They all told police they weren’t aware of the requirements of the public health orders,” NSW Police said.

During the temporary closure of the site for the day the police noticed that there was no QR code at the scene, then determined that there was “no Covid security plan”.

“The owner of the business was contacted, who told officers he was unaware of his obligations, including ensuring that his employees comply with public health orders,” police said. from NSW.

The 23-year-old company was fined $ 10,000, while two of the employees – aged 24 and 27 – were fined $ 1,000 and offenses of $ 500 for failing to not have worn a face cover.

The third employee was also fined $ 500.

They were all told they were not allowed to work outside of their LGAs until they met the requirements of public health orders before being ordered to return home.

Sydney is in the midst of a serious Covid-19 outbreak, with 1,288 new local infections recorded on Thursday.

Seven other people have died, bringing the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 107 since June 16, when the Delta epidemic began.
