Queensland reports new local case of COVID-19 in mother of infected four-year-old girl

Queensland reported a new local case of COVID-19 on Sunday.

The new case is the mother of a four-year-old girl who was diagnosed with coronavirus on Friday.

Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said she was “not worried” about the case since it had been reported in home quarantine.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr Jeannette Young said the woman tested negative twice before returning a positive swab.

The four-year-old was close contact with a truck driver who was contagious in the Logan area.

It is not known whether the mother caught the virus from her daughter or the driver himself.

The infection has forced more than 1,000 families into isolation.

The little girl was contagious in the community for two days, Young says, and attended the Boulevard Early Learning Center in Windaroo.

“Can I just say to the families who have been asked to go into home quarantine because of this small group, we really need you to respect home quarantine,” Palaszczuk said.

“We saw how well it worked, especially when we dealt with the last group and I say to all the families who have been told to go into home quarantine ‘thank you, you are keeping us all safe.’

Young said there were two new interstate cases of COVID-19 that had been infectious in Queensland.

One is a fully vaccinated Qantas pilot who lives in Kingaroy.

The other is a truck driver who is also considered “low risk,” Young said.
