Governor Lamont provides update on Connecticut’s coronavirus response efforts

(HARTFORD, CT) – As the state of Connecticut continues to take action in response to the global spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Governor Ned Lamont provided the following updates at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday September 9, 2021:

Connecticut Testing Data Updates

The following is a summary of newly reported day-to-day data on cases, deaths and tests in Connecticut. It’s important to note that these newly reported updates include data that has occurred in the past few days to one week. All data in this report is preliminary and data for previous dates will be updated as new reports are received and data errors are corrected.

* Data on deaths from COVID-19 is updated once a week every Thursday.

Groundbreaking Connecticut Case Data Updates

The Connecticut Department of Public Health reports as of September 9, 2021, a total of 9,875 cases of COVID-19 among fully vaccinated people in Connecticut have been confirmed. Cases of COVID-19 in fully vaccinated individuals are rare. Of the more than 2.2 million people in Connecticut who completed their vaccination series, 0.43% of them contracted the virus.

Connecticut Vaccine Administration Data Updates

The following data represents the total number of COVID-19 vaccines administered in Connecticut, as reported to the state to date:

To date, Connecticut residents who have received at least one dose per age group include:

• > 95% of people over 65
• 89% of 55-64 year olds
• 80% of 45-54 year olds
• 79% of 35-44 year olds
• 71% of 25-34 year olds
• 67% of 18-24 year olds
• 76% of 16-17 year olds
• 66% of 12-15 year olds

Source: Coverage data is based on what is reported to CT WiZ, with the exception of estimated coverage for those 65 and over, which is taken from the CDC COVID Data Tracker.

All Connecticut residents over the age of 12 are currently eligible to receive the vaccines. To locate a vaccination clinic, visit ct.gov/covidvaccine.

Connecticut Variant Data Updates

The following data contains the cumulative number of SARS-CoV-2 variants that have been identified among Connecticut residents to date:

Worrisome variants

• Sub-lines B.1.1.7 and Q (Alpha): 3,394 cases
• B.1.351 / B.1.351.2 / B.1.351.3 (Beta): 38 cases
• B.1.617.2 and all AY sublines (Delta): 2,702 cases
• Sub-lines P.1 and P.1 (Gamma): 210 cases

Variants of interest

• B.1.525 (Eta): 21 cases
• B.1.526 (Iota): 1,553 cases
• B.1.617.1 (Kappa): 3 cases
• B.1.617.3: 0 cases

Weekly update of the COVID-19 alert map of the Ministry of Public Health: 84 of 169 municipalities in red zone alert level

The Connecticut Department of Public Health today released its weekly COVID-19 alert card, indicating that 84 of Connecticut’s 169 municipalities are currently in the red zone alert level, the highest of the state’s four alert levels.

Color coded areas include:

• Red: Indicates rates of cases in the last two weeks of more than 15 per 100,000 population
• Orange: Indicates case rates between 10 and 14 cases per 100,000 population
• Yellow: Indicates case rates between 5 and 9 per 100,000 population
• Grey: Indicates case rates less than five per 100,000 population

The weekly alert card is also accompanied by a table that provides advice on recommended actions based on alert levels of individual residents; institutions such as schools, places of worship and community organizations; and municipal leaders and local health directors.

The COVID-19 alert card is updated every Thursday afternoon and can be found on the Data Tracker page of the state’s coronavirus website at ct.gov/coronavirus.

Provide information to Connecticut residents

For the state of Connecticut’s most recent information on COVID-19, residents are encouraged to visit ct.gov/coronavirus. Residents can also subscribe to state SMS alerts by submitting the keyword COVIDCT To 888-777.

People who have general questions that the website cannot answer can call 2-1-1 for assistance. The hotline is available 24 hours a day and has multilingual assistance. Anyone out of state or in need of a toll-free number can connect to Connecticut 2-1-1 by dialing 1-800-203-1234. This is intended for use by people who are symptom free but may have general questions related to COVID-19. Anyone showing symptoms is strongly advised to contact their attending physician.
