Current health alerts

Covid-19 is a new viral disease. Scientists are still learning how it is spread, how it affects children and what role children can play in the spread of the disease. People with COVID-19 have a wide variety of symptoms, ranging from mild to severe. Symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure. These symptoms can include:

  • fever * or feeling feverish / chills
  • cough
  • shortness of breath
  • fatigue (fatigue)
  • muscle or body pain
  • headache
  • new loss of taste or smell
  • sore throat
  • runny or stuffy nose
  • nausea or vomiting
  • diarrhea

* It is important to note that most children with COVID may not have a fever.

Your child’s temperature will be taken before boarding the bus or, if they are in a car, when they arrive at school. Please help us and check your child’s temperature before sending to school and keep your child at home if they are not feeling well or if they have any of the above symptoms. You will be called and you will be expected to pick up your child as soon as possible if they become ill.
Please contact your healthcare provider if you have any questions.
The Johnson County Department of Health offers free COVID testing to anyone (including children) ages 5 and older. You must make an appointment by dialing 913-715-2819.
Please see the Health Resources page for more information on COVID-19.
