Victoria records 392 new cases of COVID-19, ‘young, unvaccinated’ hit hard

Victoria has recorded 392 cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours through 8 p.m. last night, with a majority of cases among “young and unvaccinated.”

Victoria recorded 392 more local cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday morning, bringing the state’s total to 3,112.

Of the 392 cases, only 107 have been linked to known outbreaks.

More than 36,000 COVID-19 vaccines were given on Saturday and 65% of Victorians have now received their first dose.

Health Minister Martin Foley continued to urge Victorians to come forward for the vaccine, warning that the majority of infections were among young people and the unvaccinated.

Of Saturday’s 450 record cases, 85% were under 50.

“We continue to see this epidemic concentrate among the young and the unvaccinated,” he told reporters.

Mr Foley said 89% of COVID-19 cases in hospital had not received the vaccine while only 11% had received a single dose.

“The message is pretty clear – being fully immunized protects you, keeps you from going to the hospital, and most importantly, protects those you love and support in your community.”
