The move means South Australia will become the first state in the country to offer the Pfizer vaccine to anyone over the age of 12.

Prime Minister Steven Marshall said that starting Monday, children between the ages of 12 and 15 and those aged 60 and over will be able to register for Pfizer vaccinations at state-run clinics.

“Throughout the pandemic, South Australians have stepped up to do their part to keep the community safe and strong, including rolling around and getting vaccinated,” Prime Minister Marshall said.

“We continue to see a record number of people getting vaccinated and we expect that stroke rate to skyrocket as more than 60,000 new appointments are online to get more life-saving shots in the arms of the people. South Australians.

“Starting Monday, we fully open eligibility for Pfizer at state-run clinics, ensuring that anyone aged 12 and over can access the COVID-19 vaccination.

“Vaccination is our way out of the pandemic and there is absolutely no reason for South Australians to wait to make an appointment.”

The roll-out change will make the Pfizer vaccine available to anyone over 12 at SA Health clinics, while AstraZeneca will continue to be available to anyone 18 or over with informed consent.

Health and Welfare Minister Stephen Wade has said the government is committed to ensuring that every South Australian has the opportunity to be vaccinated by the end of the year.

“We are making excellent progress in the vaccination rollout with 57% of South Australians having a dose and over 39% of the community fully vaccinated,” Minister Wade said.

“We are also increasing access with new pop-up clinics about to open in Adelaide Myer Center and Pooraka, and outreach services are helping to make vaccination as convenient as possible for South Australians.

“The Liberal Marshall government is committed to keeping pace with the immunization rollout to protect our community. “

Chief Public Health Officer Prof Nicola Spurrier said increased eligibility is another positive step in the rollout of immunization.

“It’s very nice to see the eligibility open up to allow more people to get vaccinated and in particular to give the choice to older South Australians,” said Prof Spurrier.

“We know there has been some reluctance in the community among people over 60, with just over 40% of people 60 to 69 fully vaccinated. However, I would like to personally thank all of the members of this age group who received AstraZeneca. as soon as they could, because it is also a great and very effective vaccine.

“Those who are not vaccinated, especially in this age group, remain vulnerable to COVID-19 and, as many know, we will soon be looking to lift border restrictions with other jurisdictions. “

According to ATAGI advice, people who have received one dose of AstraZeneca should receive their second dose of the same vaccine.

Anyone who has booked their first dose of AstraZeneca at an SA health clinic should not cancel their appointment but notify their vaccination nurse if they would prefer to receive Pfizer.

Reservations open for 12-15 year olds and 60 year olds and over on the SA Health website at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 13. All SA Health clinics will offer vaccines to children 12 to 15 years old, with the exception of the Adelaide Myer Center and Pooraka pop-up clinics.
