Immunization update
COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and free. They reduce the risk of people falling seriously ill from COVID-19.
• A third dose of mRNA vaccine is allowed for moderately to severely immunocompromised individuals, ie people with weakened immune systems.
• COVID-19 booster shots coming this fall.
◦ While the CDC does not recommend additional doses or boosters for any other population at this time, the HHS has announced a plan to begin offering COVID-19 vaccine boosters this fall.
◦ The FDA and CDC review the data to determine the optimal time for a recall. If you get a booster too soon after your second injection, you may not get the best immune response.
You can find more information about vaccines at scdhec.gov/vaxfacts.

Community partner vaccination clinics
Some non-DHEC vaccine providers may ask you for your insurance information or an ID card, but you are not required to provide it to receive your vaccine and cannot be refused. To make an appointment at a non-DHEC clinic, register online with the provider or call the provider directly.
Free COVID-19 test
The tests sponsored by DHEC are free and painless (oral or nasal swab). Find a free DHEC test point near you at: scdhec.gov/gettested. Information on community partner non-DHEC testing opportunities can be found here: scdhec.gov/covid19testing.
There continues to be a high rate of transmission of the COVID-19 disease in communities across our state. See current CDC recommendations for who should get tested for COVID-19.
