CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5K Walk took place on Saturday morning at Yeatman’s Cove.

Thousands of marchers took to the streets and gathered people to help raise awareness about breast cancer.

The annual walk raises thousands of dollars for breast cancer research and patient services.

“In Cincinnati, we fund $ 3 million for research, but we also take care of people throughout their journey, from patient support services, our transportation program,” said the executive director of the American Cancer Society, Lenora Oeters.

The event is in honor of those who have lost their battle with cancer, survivors, caregivers and those battling cancer.

“It’s amazing that people are here to walk and support and the brotherhood that we feel,” said Arnika Bess, breast cancer survivor. “It’s good.”

According to the American Cancer Society, the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks were launched to help unite communities in the fight against this deadly disease.

The Queen City campaign to fight breast cancer is part of the largest network of breast cancer events in the United States.
