More Elkhart County Board of Health members resign amid community tensions

ELKHART, Indiana (AP) – More and more county health board members are stepping down amid tensions and hostility in their northern Indiana community.

Dr Ebenezer Kio, an oncologist, and Dr Donald Findlay, a retired dentist, have announced their resignation from the Elkhart County board of directors by the end of the year, reported The Elkhart Truth.

Dr Randy Cammenga resigned in September and Todd Meier will resign at the end of 2021.

Health worker Dr Bethany Wait resigns after December 31.

The job of the board is to provide information, services and programs to promote good health.

Kio said the county council’s refusal to seek $ 3 million in federal grants over three years played a role in his decision.

The grants would have enabled six people to be hired and trained as health educators, The Goshen News reported.
