DENVER (CBS4) – A new order of public health from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will require vaccinations at all public, indoor, and non-seated events of 500 or more people in the Denver metro area. The order applies to Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver and Jefferson counties.

The new protocols will enter into force on November 19, the CDPHE said in a press release on Sunday.

“I am grateful to the counties that are coordinating with the state to slow the spread of the virus. Large sites and local governments are part of the solution to ending the pandemic, ”said Jill Hunsaker Ryan, Executive Director of CDPHE. “We also need all Colorado residents to do their part by getting immunized if they haven’t already; get a callback; and following basic public health precautions such as masks, stay home in case of illness and wash your hands. “

The state says the goal is to prevent super-spraying events as state health experts grapple with rising COVID-19 numbers and data. CDPHE says it hopes this order will help reduce the thrust and avoid statewide closures or capacity restrictions.

The CDPHE offered the following responses from the respective counties concerned:

Adams County Commissioner Eva Henry:

“Since the early days of the pandemic, we have done our part in Adams County to protect our residents from this deadly new virus, from hosting one of the largest testing sites at Water World to the one of Colorado’s community vaccination sites opened in Dicks. Sporting goods, our priority has always been the safety of our community and in this effort, we are proud today to support this new action of the Polis administration because it will help protect our public health by reducing the risk that a indoor event could lead to the spread of COVID. “

Arapahoe County Commissioner Nancy Jackson:

“The strained hospital system is proof that we all need to do our part to help slow the spread of the virus in our community,” said Commissioner Nancy Jackson, chair of the Arapahoe County Board of Commissioners. “Over the past 21 months, we’ve learned how good hygiene practices, the use of face coverings, testing, social distancing and vaccines can help keep our residents healthy. We really need everyone to continue and stay vigilant to bring some relief to our healthcare system, especially as the winter season approaches. “

Boulder County Commissioner Claire Levy:

“As Boulder leads the way in protecting our community from this deadly virus with high vaccination rates, implementing a vaccine requirement for our workforce and a mask mandate for indoor public spaces, we know the delta variant is a formidable enemy because it is many times more contagious than previous strains of COVID and not all of our children have had the chance to receive the life-saving vaccine. Our communities are all connected, and we are grateful to the governor and the state for taking this common sense step to slow the spread of COVID. “

Broomfield Mayor Guyleen Castriotta:

“With narrow borders and mobility between counties, the City and County of Broomfield have and will continue to take a regional approach to better protect the health and safety of our community,” said Broomfield Mayor Guyleen Castriotta . “We are grateful to our residents and neighbors, for their continued resilience and solidarity, united in doing their part for the greater good throughout this pandemic.”

“Making large indoor gatherings safer and preventing potential super-spreading events will help keep JeffCO’s kids in the classroom and slow the spread of COVID and the delta variant. We applaud this action today on the part of the state and the governor.
