Seventeen other Windsor-Essex residents have tested positive for COVID-19.

The local health unit reported on Tuesday that eight of the cases were close contacts of confirmed cases, five were community acquired and one case was travel-related. How the remaining three people contracted the disease is still under investigation.

To date, 20,980 residents of the region have tested positive, including 280 still active cases, 466 people dead and 20,205 people who are no longer contagious but may have lingering effects on their health.

Eighteen people with COVID-19 are currently in local hospitals, including five in intensive care.

School outbreaks have been canceled at Princess Elizabeth Public School and Vincent Massey High School. Essex Public School and St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary School still have active epidemics.
