Covid NI: four other deaths and 1,476 positive cases reported

Four more coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

The health ministry’s death toll now stands at 2,847.

The deaths are said to have occurred during the reporting period.

1,476 other positives Covid case were also registered in NI today.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 307,527 since the start of the pandemic, according to the health ministry.

In the last seven days, the Department said 11,502 people have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

According to figures released on Tuesday, there are currently 390 confirmed Covid-19 patients in hospital and 33 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, the NI executive agreed to a series of new measures recommended by the Minister of Health.

Ministers reinforce the message that people should work from home whenever possible and limit social contact.

In a joint statement released Tuesday afternoon, ministers urged the public to do all in their power to “ensure that we stop the spread of Covid approaching Christmas “.

“Covid-19 has once again taken a firm hold on our society,” the statement said.

“Community transmission of the virus is increasing. Hospital admissions are increasing and modeling indicates that admissions will increase further in the coming weeks.

“The clear opinion of public health experts is that intervention is now necessary.

“Our people – individuals, families, communities and businesses – have been through so much during this pandemic. Our collective goal is to reduce the pressure on our hospitals, while allowing our society and our economy to remain open as completely and safely as possible.

“This means that we must all take action to prevent the situation from worsening which would potentially require tougher action.

“We met again today to discuss the additional steps needed to help break the chain of transmission.”
