Coronavirus: Manitoba health officials to provide update on COVID-19 and vaccine

Manitoba health officials are expected to provide an update on COVID-19 and the vaccine on Wednesday afternoon.

Dr Brent Roussin, the province’s chief public health officer, and Dr Joss Reimer, medical lead for the vaccine implementation working group, will speak at a virtual press conference at 12 p.m. 30. CTV News Winnipeg will be broadcasting the event live.

The press conference comes a day after the province announced 129 new cases of COVID-19. Of the new cases, 64 were not vaccinated, 61 were fully vaccinated and four were partially vaccinated. This brings the number of active cases in the province to 1,523 and the number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 66,952.

Manitoba has also recorded four new deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the total to 1,296 since the start of the pandemic.

The five-day test positive rate in the province is 5.9%.

On Monday, the province began taking reservations for children aged five to 11 to receive the Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccine. As of Tuesday morning, the province had booked more than 18,000 first-dose appointments for children in this age group. The province further indicated that gunfire would begin to enter the arms of children later this week.
