COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 5 to 11 in Iqaluit will begin to be administered on November 29.
Nunavut Health Minister John Main said in a statement Friday that the territory expects to receive enough doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine over the weekend to provide one dose to every eligible child on the territory.
Vaccines will be available by appointment at Iqaluit Public Health.
A parent or guardian must accompany the child to the appointment, to give his consent to the vaccination.
A spokesperson for the Nunavut Department of Health said the territory would send information on vaccine availability in other communities “probably on Monday”.
“It will depend on when, over the weekend, the vaccine arrives in the territory,” wrote Chris Puglia.

Main said about 15% of the territory’s population are children between the ages of five and 11.
“I encourage parents to have informed and meaningful conversations with their children and to make an appointment with their health center as soon as the schedule is available,” he said.
The release says the second doses will be scheduled about eight weeks after the first.
Health Canada approved the vaccine for children in Canada on November 19 and received its first shipment on November 21.
