60 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Waterloo region since Friday

• 23 cases reported on Saturday.
• 27 cases reported on Sunday.
• 10 cases reported on Monday.

There were 235 active cases in the region. There were seven people in the three hospitals in the region infected with the virus. There were also four people in the intensive care unit, although the region’s dashboard indicates people in intensive care may no longer be contagious with the virus.

No new deaths were reported on Monday. There have been 307 COVID-related deaths in the Waterloo region since March 2020.

The region has yet to identify a case of the new variant of concern, B11529 dubbed omicron.

The region’s scorecard shows that there are 262 cases where a mutation has been detected, but more testing is needed to determine which variant of the virus is involved. There have been cases of omicron detected in Ottawa and Hamilton.

10 workplace outbreaks

There have been 12 outbreaks, including one in a school, one in a daycare, and 10 in workplaces:

• Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School has 20 cases. The school is currently closed to in-person learning and the school board says it expects students to be able to return to class on December 6.
• Apostolic Faith Mission in Kitchener with five cases.
• A craft workshop with four boxes.
• A career, skills and training center with four cases.
• A transport workplace with three cases.
• A chiropractic practice with three cases.
• Two retail stores with two checkouts each.
• Jacob Hespeler Child Care Riverside with two cases.
• A hockey-related outbreak with two cases.
• A gym with two cases.
• A manufacturing workplace with two cases.

10% of children vaccinated

The region’s immunization dashboard showed that 10% of children aged five to 11 received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine since the region began administering the vaccine on Friday. The region reported that 4,363 doses had been administered on Sunday.

The region had received 20,000 doses last week.

The dashboard shows that 74.99% of the region’s entire population received both doses of the vaccine. There is still no vaccine available for children four and under.
