MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) – The Wisconsin Department of Public Health reports that more than one in six children aged 5 to 11 have received a COVID-19 vaccine and more than one in 10 have completed their series of vaccines . DHS added long-awaited figures for this age group to its public dashboard Tuesday. Young children started receiving smaller doses of Pfizer vaccine about 5 weeks ago, with 3 weeks between their first and second injection. In total, DHS reports that 86,757 children in this age group received at least one injection.
DHS made a number of revisions to the immunization reporting by age group, including a sharp increase in the percentage of people aged 45 to 54 getting vaccinated and a sharp drop in the percentages for the 65-year-old population. and more. The DHS also combined 12 to 15 year olds with the 16 and 17 year old age group in its statistics.
TUESDAY VACCINATIONS BY AGE GROUP (and change since last report)
- 5 to 11: 17.8% received the vaccine / 10.2% completed the vaccinations
- 12 to 17: 55.6% received the vaccine / 50.6% completed the vaccinations
- 18 to 24: 55.6% vaccinated (+0.2) / 50.9% vaccinated completed (+0.2)
- 25 to 34: 60.2% received the vaccine (+0.0) / 56.0% completed the vaccines (+0.0)
- 35 to 44: 66.3% received the vaccine (-0.8) / 62.8% completed the vaccinations (-0.8)
- 45 to 54: 69.2% received the vaccine (+1.6) / 66.3% completed the vaccinations (+1.6)
- 55 to 64: 76.2% received the vaccine (+0.3) / 73.5% completed the vaccines (+0.2)
- 65 years and over: 85.1% received the vaccine (-1.6) / 82.0% completed the vaccines (-2.4)
In total, DHS says 61.1% of the state’s population has rolled up their sleeve for at least one dose of vaccine and 57.3% of Wisconsinians have completed their vaccinations. There is still 6% of the population under 5 who is not eligible for any COVID-19 vaccine.
Addition of the number of children aged 5 to 11 brings a net gain of 106,990 in the number of Wisconsinites receiving a COVID-19 vaccine and an increase of 61,598 completing their vaccine series compared to a day ago .
By adding the youngest age group eligible for injections, Menominee County exceeded 75% of residents receiving at least one injection, and Forest and Kewaunee counties exceeded 50%. Fond du Lac County has exceeded 50% of residents who have completed their round of immunizations.

CASES, DEATHS, HOSPITALIZATIONS
After a short lull in new cases and deaths, the 7-day averages for these two measures increased on Tuesday.
DHS reported 3,847 new tests for the COVID-19 virus were positive, increasing the moving average from 3,457 to 3,659, or 202 more cases per day. The positivity rate remains at 12-month highs, currently 11.8% of all tests positive for the virus, up slightly from 11.7% yesterday.
Wisconsin averages 25 deaths from COVID-19 each day with the addition of 38 recent deaths (in the past 30 days) submitted to the state. The death toll has increased by 50, to 9,431, but DHS only counts deaths in the past 30 days on average. Calumet County has reported 4 deaths and 7 more in our area – Dodge, Door, Fond du Lac, Outagamie Shawano, Waupaca and Waushara – each has reported 1.
DHS figures show an additional 228 people have been admitted to hospitals since Monday. the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) reports that there were 1,690 COVID-19 patients hospitalized on Tuesday, a decrease of 24 patients since Monday after accounting for discharges and deaths, and 427 patients in intensive care, a drop from 16.
Hospitals in the Northeastern and Fox Valley Healthcare Regions saw an increase:
In the Northeast, there are 183 COVID-19 patients, 20 more than a day ago, including 32 in intensive care, an increase of 2. The 10 hospitals report a total of 3 intensive care beds , 5 intermediate care beds and 15 medical beds. surgical beds among them – beds needed to treat all conditions, not just COVID-19.
In Fox Valley, there are 150 COVID-19 patients, including 32 in intensive care – 1 more in intensive care since Monday and 7 more patients in total. The 13 hospitals do not declare any intensive care bed, no intermediate care bed and 1 medico-surgical surgery bed immediately available.
