One of the best ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to get tested if you’ve been around someone who has COVID-19, or if you experience symptoms. However, as Christmas draws closer and more people are exposed or feel unwell, tests are getting harder and harder to find.
This is not just true in Philadelphia; tests have become much more difficult to find nationwide due to a number of factors beyond the City’s control. There is a shortage of healthcare workers and people qualified to administer COVID tests, the labs that run these tests are extremely busy, and there is not a good constant supply of rapid home tests in stores or available.
To facilitate testing before Christmas, the Department of Health is distributing up to 24,000 rapid home test kits to our pop-up vaccination clinics during the week of December 20.
Philadelphia residents can receive two test kits, each containing two tests. You do not need to be vaccinated or get vaccinated to receive them, although we strongly encourage everyone to get or get their booster shot.
