Nottingham hospitals suspend visits for two weeks to protect patients and staff from Covid

Visits have been suspended for two weeks at hospitals in Nottingham due to Covid concerns.

The trust said:

“Unfortunately, we must suspend routine visits from Saturday January 1 for two weeks to ensure patient and staff safety during the pandemic as the number of Covid-19 positive patients increases in our community and in our communities. hospitals. “

Visits will continue to be permitted if:

• a patient needs help communicating or meeting their healthcare, emotional, religious or spiritual needs
• they are there to support antenatal visits and exams, induction of labor, during labor as well as during the postnatal period
• they are a parent / guardian or family caregiver / support / personal assistant
• a patient is seriously ill or receiving end-of-life care.

If you are visiting your loved one to ensure the safety of our patients, we ask our visitors to take a Lateral Flow Test (LFT) on the day of their visit. You may be asked for the result, and supporting documents may be requested.

If you do not feel well with any of the following symptoms; a fever; a new cough continues; loss or change in smell and taste; a new onset of fatigue / increased fatigue; a sore throat; a headache; aches and pains; diarrhea; a rash or discoloration of the fingers or toes; red or itchy eyes or have a positive Covid-19 test please do not frequent our hospitals.

What we ask you during your visit

• Please go directly to the area you are visiting and avoid going to other areas of the hospital prior to your visit
• Please refrain from using shops and restaurants to avoid mingling with many people
• Please use the nearest entrance to get to the department you are visiting. See our campus maps here
• Please keep two meters from others, respect the posted lifting capacity and stay to the left in our corridors
• Please wear surgical mask in our hospitals, in some areas we can tell you about improved personal protective equipment (PPE). If you have a medical exemption and cannot wear a face shield, please speak to a member of staff as you may be offered a visor. Please determine if your medical exemption makes you more vulnerable to infections, we have digital options to stay in touch below
• Please wash your hands upon arrival at the hospital and throughout your visit or use the hand sanitizer provided
• Please bring as little personal effects as possible with you
• A visitor to our adult services does not need to be the same throughout a patient’s stay. We ask the next of kin to be responsible for coordinating who is present for a visit.

We know this is a very difficult time for you and your loved one and we will do everything possible to facilitate virtual tours during this suspended face-to-face visitation time.

Our children’s hospital and neonatal units

For the patients of our Children’s Hospital:

• A parent / guardian / guardian can visit or reside with a child at any time.
• The parent / guardian / guardian can change at any time during admission, however we ask that only one parent / guardian / guardian reside in the department at a time.
• Under certain circumstances, a second parent / guardian / guardian may visit for an agreed period of time. This should be agreed in advance with the warden or matron.

For patients in the neonatal unit:

• Both parent / caregivers can visit together.
• Parents / caregivers of a baby in the neonatal unit are welcome to visit at any time.
• No other visitors, including siblings, are currently allowed in neonatal units.
• In order to stay safe and reduce the risk of spreading infection, all parents / caregivers visiting our neonatal units will need to take a Covid Swab (PCR) twice a week throughout your baby’s stay in the unit. . This will allow us to continue to help parents / guardians participate safely in the care of your baby while he is on the unit.

To help keep Covid-19 out of our hospitals, we are requesting that the pregnant person and partner / support take a lateral flow test – including to attend analysis and clinic appointments and visits. Lateral flow test kits are available in the community and can be used by anyone in their own home twice a week. It is important that you record your results. Once you have saved your result online, it will generate an email and SMS confirming the result. All supporting partners will be asked to complete their own community lateral flow test and show proof of it on the day of admission.

Emergency department

When presenting to our Emergency Department (ER), we ask patients to come alone whenever possible.

The following patients may be accompanied to the emergency department:

• Patients with a learning disability
• Patients at the end of their life
• Patients with dementia
• Maternity
• Children
• Patients who require assistance in meeting their communication and / or healthcare, emotional, religious or spiritual needs – this will be assessed individually by a senior nurse upon arrival.

Please note that in most cases only one parent can accompany a child. It must be the same parent throughout the child’s stay. We will do our best to keep you informed of your relative or friend’s progress during their stay.
