Workshop on clinical diagnosis and disease recognition

A total of 30 veterinarians and animal health workers from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources (MoAWR) of the KRG were trained during a 5-day “Diagnosis” workshop. clinic and recognition of diseases ”in Baghdad on December 19. to 23 2021, as part of the project funded by the United States Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) “Improving the delivery of animal health services and disease surveillance in Iraq”, implemented by FAO in collaboration with MoA and MoAWR.

The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, D. Hameed Ali accompanied by 5 lecturers as well as a number of veterinarians and animal health workers from the sector of the Kurdistan region and the Iraqi governorates, attended the sessions of training, which have become increasingly collaborative and interactive, on an ongoing basis. enriched with subjects such as brucellosis, avian influenza, sheep and goat pox, lumpy skin disease, rabies, peste des petits ruminants, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, bovine viral diarrhea, foot-and-mouth disease, bluetongue sheep, Rift Valley fever, anthrax and Q fever.

In the opening speech, the FAO representative in Iraq, D. Salah El Hajj Hassan welcomed the participants and indicated to the project’s interventions in the field of animal diseases “The training aims to strengthen the capacities of veterinarians. and animal health workers in the areas of investigation, sample collection, examination, testing as well as laboratory diagnosis through information sharing and exchange of expertise to positively contribute to the harmonization of the animal disease identification system across Iraq.

He added: “We are working with partners to eradicate animal disease threats and limit the risk of animal disease outbreaks by improving the evaluation capacities of veterinary services and disease notification systems.”

D. Hameed Ali, the dean of the Baghdad College of Veterinary Medicine, praised the importance of scientific cooperation between the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Food and Agriculture Organization in adapting an effective model of training of veterinarians. future trainers.

He also expressed his admiration for the training, describing it “The workshop was well organized and the approach was very informative, held with the help of teachers qualified in the field of veterinary medicine and animal diseases, who carried out extensive research “.

The participants presented a certificate of completion at the end of the training.
