BROOKLINE (CBS) – The city of Brookline will require proof of COVID vaccination to enter many businesses starting Saturday.
Proof will be required at restaurants, gyms and entertainment venues. The requirement does not apply to businesses that only offer take out.
The city said the new order would start in phases. Starting Saturday, anyone 12 years of age and over must provide proof that they have received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine. Phase 2 begins on February 22, when all ages 12 and over must prove that they are fully immunized.
The third phase begins on March 22, when clients aged 5 to 11 must prove that they have received at least one dose. By May 1, all customers 5 years of age and older must be fully immunized to enter applicable businesses.
Violators face fines of $ 300.
Public safety, public health and emergency service personnel are exempt from the policy.
No proof of vaccination will be required for people entering businesses for a “quick and limited purpose” such as using the washroom or picking up a take out order.
Schools, daycares, seniors’ centers and community centers are not affected.
“This approach helps protect our entire community as we approach the start of the third year of a pandemic that has touched all of our lives,” Acting Health Commissioner Patrick Maloney said in a statement.
