Public Health Education Program Receives National Awards

In April 2022, undergraduate student Shannon Lewinski (Public Health-Community Health Education) was awarded the National Health Education Honorary Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG), ESG NCHEC (National Commission for Health Education Credentialing) Outstanding Undergraduate Major of the Year. Kristin Pachy, (Public Health – Community Health Education) was the 2021 winner.

Are you passionate about creating healthier communities? Are you committed to educating people about the issues affecting their health and how they can change? Public health educators are on the front lines of public health, advocating for healthier individuals, families and communities!

Public health educators are qualified to promote health behaviors and policies that prevent disease and injury and improve community health and quality of life. UEM’s Public Health Education program can help you develop the skills to design and implement evidence-based health education programs to improve health. The Public Health Education program prepares culturally competent health education professionals to partner with individuals and communities to prevent disease and injury and promote health.

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of health educators is expected to increase by 16% by 2026 as more groups look for ways to promote healthy lifestyles for individuals, families and communities.

The Public Health Education Program collaborates with EMU’s Office of Health Promotion to provide you with hands-on opportunities to plan, implement, and evaluate public health education programs both on campus and within the local community. EMU’s public health education programs and courses are competency-based. Upon successful completion of the undergraduate Community Health Education track or the Masters in Public Health Education program, you will be eligible to take the national Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam.
