A man says he had less than 12 months to live is now cancer-free thanks to a UK trial of a new drug regimen.

Robert Glynn, 51, said he ‘wouldn’t be here’ if it weren’t for the stunning results of the Christie’s trial NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.

Mr Glynn, a welder from Worsley in Greater Manchester, was diagnosed with a deadly form of bile duct cancer inside his liver in August 2020. He was told it had spread to the gland adrenal. He received an immunotherapy drug, already approved for use in other cancers, combined with standard chemotherapy. The drug cannot be named due to the experimental nature of the trial.

Mr Glynn’s tumors shrank and in April he underwent surgery to remove them. Since his operation, his quarterly scans show that he no longer has cancer.

In comments made exclusively to the PA news agency, Mr Glynn said: ‘I wouldn’t be here today if not for the trial.

“When I had the opportunity to participate in research, I jumped at the chance.

“You do everything you can to prolong your life.

“I feel very lucky because I had cancer for two years and I had no idea.

“So getting the green light was overwhelming.

“In a weird way, the diagnosis changed my life.

“With my partner, Simone, we go out in nature and walk a lot. When something like this happens, you realize that life is for living.

Since his operation Mr Glynn has not needed further treatment and his quarterly scans show he is cancer free.

Other studies are currently being carried out with a larger number of patients in the hope of modifying the treatment of bile duct cancer.

In a bid to live a healthier life, Mr Glynn also completely changed his diet, losing several stones after tipping the scales in 16th.

“I’ve cut out all processed foods, refined sugar, dairy and milk and now have a smoothie every day and lots of organic fruits and vegetables and I’m making everything from scratch,” he said. -he declares.

“I managed to lose 5th place, which was a big step for me.

“I realized you can’t just rely on doctors to help you. You also need to help yourself. It’s also important to stay positive and not give up.

“It’s never over until it’s over.”
