As the COVID-19 pandemic emerges from its crisis era, the American Nurses Association, American Hospital Association and American Medical Association are reminding people of the importance of vaccines in a new public service announcement.
On February 9, the groups published a joint public service announcement on the issue. The 30 seconds video includes comments from the leaders of each of the organizations, encouraging people to stay informed about COVID-19 vaccines, including the updated reminder.
“Vaccines protect us all against serious diseases,” Jennifer Mensik Kennedy, PhD, RN, ANA President, said in the clip. “COVID-19 patients are still in our hospitals and many are very sick.”
The message comes as the nation prepares for the END of the COVID-19 public health emergency declaration in May. The seven-day hospitalization average from February 1 to 7 was 3,665, or 6.2% decrease compared to the average of the previous week. This figure is down from an 8.4% drop in cases seen a week earlier. Although the “triple epidemic” has reached its peak, hospitals continue to face significant ability challenges.
