Below is an example of our work at the Koyukuk Community Health Clinic.

Koyukuk celebrates newly built community clinic
The community of Koyukuk held a grand opening for their newly built clinic on May 29. Attendees included community members and representatives from the ANTHC, Tanana Conference of Chiefs, and the State of Alaska. During the opening ceremonies, former health care aides and other longtime residents expressed their appreciation for the incremental improvements in local health care, culminating in their new facility.

The newly opened clinic features several significant upgrades over the original facility, with the most significant upgrade being a sewage system and running water. Numerous energy-saving features such as super-insulated construction, an additional biomass heating system, ventilation heat recovery and LED lighting, make the clinic very energy efficient.

The Koyukuk Clinic serves approximately 100 residents and supports many services including local community health aides, medical laboratory, pharmacy, trauma treatment, optometry, behavioral health, telemedicine, housing for visiting medical staff and a dental office. The operating room includes an oral x-ray unit and integrated dental air and suction systems.

Construction of the clinic was funded by a grant from the Denali Commission and matching funds provided by IHS, the State of Alaska, the City of Koyukuk, the Conference of Tanana and Doyon Chiefs. The clinic was completed in February 2015 and commissioned on March 31. The project was a collaborative effort between ANTHC staff, local workers and Watermark Construction.
