One Health’s Four-Part Call to Action for a Safer World

A health system that is resilient to recent global health emergencies such as the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mpox, Ebola outbreaks and other zoonotic diseases, food security, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) challenges, as well as ecosystem degradation and climate change. Leaders of the quadripartite organizations working on One Health called for unprecedented global action at their first annual face-to-face meeting today.

The quadripartite aims to achieve together what no one sector can achieve alone and consists of four main agencies: the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). ).

He urged all countries and key stakeholders to take the following priority steps, stressing that improved cooperation and commitment is needed to translate the One Health approach into policy action in all countries.

A one health approach should be used as a guiding principle, especially in international methods. including in the new Pandemic Toolkit and the Pandemic Fund to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.
2. Strengthening national health policies, strategies and plans, Expenditure and prioritized in line with the Quadripartite One Health Joint Action Plan (OH JPA) to enhance widespread implementation in relevant sectors and at all levels;
3. Accelerating the implementation of One Health Plans; Support national One Health governance and multisectoral coordination mechanisms, including the development of scenario analyses, stakeholder mapping, priority setting and One Health monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
4. Intersectoral build a health workforce joint pre-service and continuing education for human, animal and environmental health workers who have the skills, capacity and capability to prevent, detect, control and respond to health threats;

The Quadripartite has been playing a central role in promoting and coordinating the global One Health approach in line with the OH JPA.^{[1]Effective October 2022. To further support countries and governments in implementing the One Health approach, the quadripartite partners are developing OH JPA Implementation Guidelines to be released in 2023.}
