The CDC is investigating new cases of mpox, with some of the infections occurring among those vaccinated, the agency said May 10.
On May 11, the World Health Organization ended the mpox global health emergency designation.
A WHO committee discussed concerns about a possible increase in mpox cases May 10. In a statement, WHO said he saw “no change in the severity and clinical manifestation” of mpox while acknowledging “remaining uncertainties regarding the disease”.
The WHO added that mpox “would be best addressed through sustained efforts in a transition to a long-term strategy to manage public health risks…rather than through the contingency measures inherent in a public health emergency of international scope”.
