Up to 470,000 people in Australia live with dementia, and around 70% of them may go away at least once, sometimes multiple times.
It can be a dangerous and confrontational experience, and it is common. Yet most of us wouldn’t know what to do if we found someone in a confused state or lost track of a loved one.
Experts say more education and training is needed for professionals and community members to help find missing people with dementia, and a pivot to ‘dementia-friendly communities’ could be key .
