6 tips to help you sweat less this summer

[ad_1]

There’s a lot to love about summer. It’s time to get out there, work on your tan (safely, of course) and show off the gains you’ve made at the gym all winter long. Unfortunately, it’s also sweat season, and no matter how hard you’ve trained, if you’re constantly glowing and reeking of BO, you still won’t feel your best.

Worrying about sweat patches is a confidence killer, but don’t resign yourself to a summer of soggy T-shirts just yet. We’ve partnered with UNIQLO, whose intelligence AIRism range features sweat-wicking and odor-neutralizing technology, to tell you how to increase your chances of not sweating.

Make a wardrobe change

Obviously, some fabrics are more suitable for summer than others. On a scorching day, a lightweight linen shirt will always be a better option than a heavy flannel. Opt for cotton socks, which are more effective at absorbing sweat, and rotate the shoes you wear to let them breathe.

You can also buy specially designed fabrics to help keep you cool in hot weather. UNIQLO AIRism is a lightweight, performance fabric that wicks moisture away from the skin and dries quickly to keep you dry, even on hot days. Add a few t-shirts and shorts from this range to your wardrobe and you’ll notice a big difference.

Divert the spices

Stop! Before you take a burger off the barbecue and slather it in hot sauce, know this: spicy foods can make you sweat even more. Bell peppers and chilies contain a chemical called capsaicin that tricks your body into thinking it’s hot. In response, your body fires all of its cooling mechanisms into full gear, including increasing sweat production. In other words, save the curry night for the winter and opt for something slightly milder instead.

Plan ahead

You get up, shower, apply your antiperspirant and get dressed. It’s the natural order of things – it always has been. What if we told you that there is a more efficient way to do it?

Applying your antiperspirant before bed, when your body temperature is naturally low, and again in the morning gives it a better chance of working effectively. This is because antiperspirant takes time to form a barrier against perspiration and it can work undisturbed when you are resting. Even better, you can still enjoy your morning shower without hampering its effects.

Make your boxers breathable

Men’s running gear tends to get hot at the best of times, let alone in the height of summer. With this in mind, it pays to choose your underwear wisely. The UNIQLO AIRism range boxers are extra breathable and feature quick-dry technology that will even help reduce odor, keeping you feeling fresh. A superior choice in hot weather.

Time your run accordingly

If you like to do your workouts outdoors, keep them in the cooler times of the day to avoid overheating. Training early in the morning or late at night is preferable to training in the middle of the day because the temperature will generally be lower and the sun will be less harsh. Taking this approach will result in much less sweaty sessions.

Embrace the dark side

Bothered by sweat patches? It’s time to pay close attention to the colors you wear. Some shades highlight wet armpits, while others are great for masking wetness.

Generally, darker colors tend to look best. Avoid light gray at all costs and stick to black, navy and charcoal instead. Fortunately, Uniqlo’s AIRism range offers a number of darker options across t-shirts, polo shirts and hoodies to double your chances of staying dry.
