Our partnership with OSUWMC
Two full-time psychotherapists are provided by The Ohio State University Wexler Medical Center (OSUWMC) through our Health and Wellness Center (CHW). Counselors can work with students full-time since office management is provided by OSUWMC. As the partnership continues, we will monitor student feedback and work with OSUWMC to meet the behavioral health needs of our community.
As part of the partnership with the OSUWM, the CHW now offers:
- An increased number of appointments for students;
- Morning and afternoon walk-in crisis hours, Monday through Friday;
- Addition of educational and preventive behavioral and mental health care services;
- Better coordination and collaboration with OSUWMC behavioral health facilities for additional treatment options;
- Access to psychiatric services, if needed; And
- An updated website will be available soon.
If you have any questions about this partnership, please contact Deanna Wagner, Dean of Engagement and Success, at [email protected].
Clinical Counseling and Mental Health Internships
Two new graduate internships have been created to increase access to diverse counselors at the University and eventually in the community through Capital’s clinical and mental health counseling program. We are committed to identifying outstanding students who are members of diverse and underrepresented groups in careers related to the field of mental health to participate in this opportunity. The training will be delivered by a team of independent licensed psychotherapists employed by OSUWMC. In addition to on-site clinical supervision, there are opportunities for additional mentorship within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at OSUWMC and Harding Hospital.

Group counseling services
Participating in a structured group can be a good option for you if you feel alone in your struggles, seek an outside perspective, crave connection and/or have difficulty in your relationships. The group can be an effective way to:
(a) obtain support and encouragement from others
(b) learn how you are perceived by others
(c) learn specific skills to improve your life
(d) engage in thoughtful and meaningful conversation
(e) develop relational skills
Ground rules, including confidentiality, are usually established with group members to help promote trust. For most benefits, constant attendance is strongly encouraged.
Groups are offered by the CHW that address student concerns in a variety of areas. Some of the groups are population and/or issue specific, while other groups are skill building and experiential learning. Student needs determine the types and number of groups available. Screening with a counseling staff member is usually required for participation. Most groups last 60 minutes and consist of 5-8 members.
