Why ECHO Maternal Health?

• Nationally, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 700 women die each year due to pregnancy or childbirth complications.
• Most maternal deaths occur before or shortly after the mother gives birth, usually a few weeks or months after delivery.
• Over the past 18 years, in the state of Oklahoma, an average of 11 women have died each year from pregnancy-related complications.
• According to March of Dimes, 41 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties are classified as maternity care deserts with no birthing hospitals and no certified obstetrician-gynecologist or nurse midwife to provide care.
