Welcome to BHC
The Behavioral Health Commission was established to improve Virginia’s behavioral health services and system through research-based recommendations and oversight.

Virginia Behavioral Health Commission
The Behavioral Health Commission (BHC) was established in 2021 as a new standing committee of the Virginia General Assembly to study and make recommendations for the improvement of behavioral health services and the behavioral health service system in the Commonwealth. The Commission is made up of 12 state legislators charged with encouraging the adoption of policies that will provide Virginians with access to a full continuum of effective, high-quality behavioral health services. The BHC also provides ongoing oversight of behavioral health services and the behavioral health service system in the Commonwealth by monitoring and evaluating established programmes, services, delivery and payment structures, and the implementation of new services and initiatives in the state. The Commission is responsible for developing recommendations to improve these programs, services, structures and implementation.
