THE Jefferson County, Alabama Department of Health East looking for candidates for the post of Director of Health Equity. The JCDH has promoted health equity for many years and manages or supports many programs and initiatives targeting a wide variety of health disparities. The Director of Health Equity will work closely with the Departmental Health Officer (Executive Director) and other leaders to ensure that all staff maintain their knowledge and skills in equity principles health and that these principles are applied to all of the department’s work, and to facilitate community partnerships to advance health equity across the county. The Director will lead strategic planning efforts and develop operational procedures to improve public health outcomes. The Director is responsible for evaluating, creating, implementing, supporting and evaluating frameworks to address public health disparities. The Health Equity Director will oversee health equity staff, such as social workers, epidemiological analysts, project managers, administrative assistants and others. The Director of Health Equity will conduct confidential, high-level interdepartmental collaboration and community engagement.

TYPICAL JOB TASKS:
- Performs administrative functions, such as reviewing policies, procedures and practices, establishing program objectives, timelines and evaluation metrics, and documenting findings and reporting results related to initiatives, programs and health equity projects.
- Prepares, monitors and administers the department’s or organization’s budget by reviewing expenditure trends, expense reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budget limits.
- Engages community leaders, corporate partners, health professionals and others to gain support and resources to integrate health equity work.
- Develops and facilitates solutions to issues contributing to health disparities in the community based on race, ethnicity, income and location.
- Collaborates with internal and external partners across various disciplines and management levels to advocate and promote health equity programs delivered by the organization.
- Oversees curriculum, strategies and presentations related to health equity initiatives, programs and projects.
- Oversees health equity programs that address health disparities, promote culturally and linguistically appropriate services, and address social determinants of health within the community.
- Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their tasks, monitoring work progress, providing feedback and/or training.

- Driving license
- Experience managing work of increasing responsibility in a public health, health policy, health education and/or racial health or equity context.
- Bachelor’s degree in health, commerce, behavioral science or social science.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred qualifications are examples of experience and education considered highly desirable by recruitment agencies.
- Master’s degree in a field related to health or business, behavioral or social sciences.
- Demonstrated knowledge of public health practices and principles of community engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and coordinate partnership meetings.
- Experience in developing and interpreting workplace policies and procedures.
- Experience in writing and managing grants.
- Experience in designing and implementing health equity programs.
- Related and substantive work in program administration.
- Work experience in a public agency is strongly preferred.
- Supervisory experience in conducting performance reviews, making selection decisions, assigning tasks and taking disciplinary action as required.
