Climate Nexus Hires Climate and Health Contractor ($50,000-$60,000 Compensation)

Objective:

Climate Nexus works with partners to better appreciate the intersections between health and climate change, particularly in the context of international climate policy discussions. This grant-funded work will focus on leveraging key events and scientific reports to create buzz and generate more conversations about climate and health before and during COP 28.

Work’s extent:

The deliverables of this work will include:

• Follow-up to the conversation on climate and health: Set up and use Cision and Google News searches to monitor media coverage of climate change health to identify new research, emerging impacts, and any opposition frameworks. Use comparable tools to monitor high-level themes in digital conversations about climate change and health to identify shifts, trending topics, and influencers.
• Communication strategy, media relations and awareness of partners and experts: Implementation of the communication strategy related to the publication of new health and climate change research, policy developments and narrative priorities. Tasks will include:
  • Writing communication media (media pitches, press releases, digital media, messages, opeds)
  • Identify and connect with journalists and editors in priority geographies covering climate change and health.

• Development of content on social networks: Distill findings from selected reports and events and deliver suggested messaging and social copy to distribute to partners.
• Production of climate and health material: Research and create communications products that distill complex climate and health research for expert and non-expert audiences.
• Event planning: Support the planning, promotion and execution of virtual and in-person events.

Required Skills :

• At least 5 years of experience in strategic communications, including pitching journalists, developing story ideas, writing editorials, crafting messages and responding quickly.
• Knowledge of the subject of links between public health and climate change science and policy.
• Experience in project management, ability to achieve deliverables of multiple projects simultaneously
• Understanding of the role that racial, social and economic inequalities play in how health impacts are experienced in different countries and groups.
• Translate complex subject matter into accessible content for different audiences.

Compensation: The target compensation range for this job is $50,000 to $60,000 for a 6 month period.
