Job description:
UAlbany is seeking an enterprising fundraising professional to build philanthropic support for the University, with a particular focus on securing donations to the School of Public Health (SPH) and School of Social Welfare (SSW) ).
The Principal will be responsible for engaging alumni and friends and designing and executing solicitation strategies that advance the highest strategic priorities of the university and schools. The Director will collaborate with campus partners, particularly Deans, and develop coordinated strategies to maximize engagement of a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects.
Specific responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of individuals through the cycles of identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship; forge relationships with a diverse population of prospects to earn rewards that advance UAlbany, SPH and SSW to new levels of distinction.
- Meet prospects, often in tandem with deans and faculty members; work proactively to deepen prospect engagement through in-depth campus tours and other strategies.
- Oversee the preparation of proposals, talking points and briefings for deans and faculty members; ensure that all stakeholders are involved in key efforts focused on specific perspectives.
- Work closely with Deans to identify and articulate their fundraising priorities.
- Work with colleagues responsible for donor relations to ensure donors are properly managed.
- Collaborate with the Associate Vice President for Planned Giving to design prospecting strategies for complex solicitations and identify appropriate giving vehicles.
- Keep abreast of evolving trends in philanthropy.
- Collaborate with Deans to manage advisory boards, identify and recruit new members, and create strategies and initiatives to deepen engagement.

The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $80,000; commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for hybrid work.

- At least three years of progressively responsible experience in development with a proven ability to engage people and secure gifts; the ability to inspire donors to provide significant philanthropic support.
- Ability to capture donor attention, articulate ambitious goals and ideas, set priorities and present philanthropic opportunities.
- Understanding and appreciation of the philanthropic process and individual giving behaviors combined with direct solicitation experience.
- Experience working with senior management, faculty, and development colleagues to raise significant funds to advance an institution’s mission and goals.
- Working knowledge of the concepts of planned giving and/or estate planning.
- Creative and entrepreneurial spirit; strong intellectual curiosity.
- The professional credibility, intellectual depth, maturity, poise, and collaborative skills to earn the trust of the Dean, Senior Executive Director, faculty, and volunteer leaders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a complex organization.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking skills; the ability to accept ambiguity and challenges.
- Demonstrated integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with appropriate discretion.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse audiences and foster inclusion.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
