(CNN) – Finding it hard to fall or stay asleep? Getting in some more exercise could help, according to a new study.
According to research published in the journal BMJ, physically active people have a lower risk of insomnia and extreme sleep duration.
More than 4,300 adults were surveyed over a 10-year period about their physical activity and sleep habits.
Persistently active participants were 55% more likely to get six to nine hours of sleep a night.
Those who became active during the study were 21% more likely to sleep normally.
These results are in line with previous studies showing the benefits exercise has on sleep.
