CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Local doctors are still seeing allergy symptoms this summer.
Allergy season started earlier than normal this year due to a wet spring. TriHealth primary care doctors said that for those who are still feeling the itchy eyes, the scratchy throat, and other misery, it might be because the symptoms haven’t stopped for many people in the Tri-State.
Dr. Raymond Metzger said this is usually the time of year that things settle down.
“Things calm down a little bit by the time we get towards mid-summer,” said Dr. Metzger, TriHealth internal medicine in Delhi Township.
He said that for those who are still noticing skin rashes, wheezing from asthma or sneezing, and respiratory troubles, it may be time to check for year-round allergies. They can be treated.
“Typically, it’s antihistamines, cortisone cream, and sometimes prescription cortisone creams,” Dr. Metzger said.
Allergies tend to come on gradually as plants, pollen, grass, and trees raise levels of certain allergens in the air. So, if people are experiencing summer symptoms, it may also be a good time to get tested to see what’s bothering them.
Dr. Metzger said that for people who are miserable, it’s better to get help early than try to chase symptoms as they get worse.
