Data Analyst in , for Resound Research for Reproductive Health

The Data Analyst will support quantitative research projects related to sexual and reproductive health by conducting statistical analysis of primary and secondary data, developing systems for data collection and management, and contributing to the interpretation of results. They will also collaborate on the dissemination of results through data visualization and preparing manuscripts, briefs and reports. This position reports to the Data Scientist, or Research Scientist, as assigned.

Essential duties and responsibilities

1. Contributes to the development of and carries out quantitative data analysis plans for research projects using diverse survey, administrative, and population data and statistical software, such as Stata and/or R
2. Creates datasets and subsets from survey, administrative, and population data and prepares them for statistical analysis, including merging datasets and harmonizing and transforming variables
3. Provides statistical analysis support the development of manuscripts, reports, grants, and presentations
4. Develops, maintains and/or implements procedures for data entry, data cleaning, and documentation, including coding and documenting missing data and fixing miscoded data
5. Monitors data quality and identifies potential data problems by performing systematic analytic queries of missing and inconsistent information and recommends solutions to the research team
6. Creates and maintains data dictionaries/codebooks and meta data for primary data collection projects and administrative/population data, as needed
7. Assists with managing and fulfilling rapid research requests and technical assistance needs of community partners and collaborators by conducting new analyses of existing data

Other duties and responsibilities

1. Works closely with Data and Research Scientists, affiliated researchers, and other members of the research team to define data analysis and reporting needs
2. Validates dataset creation and data analyses
3. Writes and prepares manuscripts, briefs and other materials for internal and external audiences in collaboration with other members of the research team
4. Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with Data and Research Scientists, affiliated researchers, and other research staff
5. Contributes to an inclusive and supportive team-oriented environment that values collaboration, learning and diverse perspectives
6. Other duties as assigned

Work environment: This is a full-time, exempt position; evening and weekend hours may be needed to meet deadlines. Residence in Texas is preferred; remote working arrangements within the US may be accommodated. If not based in Austin, the person in this role will be expected to participate in regular in-person activities and meetings. We follow CDC COVID-19 recommendations for vaccination and guidelines for in-person work during pandemic surges

Education and experience

• At least two (2) years of full-time, professional work experience using a programming language (Stata and/or R) to manipulate quantitative data and perform inferential statistical analysis, including exploratory data analysis and multivariate regression modeling
• Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics, Sociology, Economics, or related field; Bachelor’s degree and equivalent knowledge gained from relevant professional experience
• Experience with GIS programming and analysis in ArcGIS, QGIS or R packages for spatial analysis, preferred

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Committed to the Project’s mission to provide evidence to inform policies that promote more equitable, comprehensive reproductive healthcare
• Proficiency programming in Stata or R to clean, merge and analyze data and create data visualizations
• Able to apply appropriate statistical tests for continuous and categorical data (t-tests, chi-squared tests, ANOVA) and use inferential statistical models such as multivariate linear and logistic regression
• Ability and willingness to learn new programming or statistical modeling skills as needed
• Familiarity with programming Qualtrics, Question Pro and/or REDCap for data entry, preferred
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Able to effectively communicate statistical results verbally to research team members
• Able to work collaboratively to support senior researchers with quantitative data analysis, data visualization, and interpretation and communication of research findings
• Able to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize while maintaining a sense of humor
• Strong English-language writing skills to contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, briefs, and reports
• Has a high level of computer literacy, including confidence using (or learning to use) Microsoft suite (Sharepoint, Teams) and other digital tools

Physical demands: Sitting at a computer for extended periods of time. Some travel may be required.
