The Department of Health Systems and Population Health in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington (UW) invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a focus on Anti-Racism and Health. The Center for Anti-Racism and Community Health (ARCH) brings together national leaders in health equity and community engaged research along with a multidisciplinary expert panel with diverse expertise connected to the content, population, and methodological needs to support the co-design and implementation of community-driven structural interventions.
This is a full-time 100% FTE, 12-month service period position, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. The base monthly salary range for this position is $10,000 – $12,500, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to:
- Teach in the Department’s educational programs and mentor undergraduate, master, and doctoral students. Participate in a collaborative, interdisciplinary teaching environment, as appropriate to student interests and experiences.
- Develop a creative, innovative, original, and high-impact research program and conduct independent externally funded research.
- Produce dissemination products for diverse key audiences, such as, manuscripts, infographics, community report back, data visualizations, convenings, toolkits, and publication in reputable journals.
- Engage with health care stakeholders (e.g., health care delivery systems, policy makers) for scientific activities, communicate science to non-academic communities outside of scientific conferences and journals, and translate evidence to real-world decision making.
- Participate in services that contribute to the growth of the department and University. Services may include faculty council participation, membership on a committee, faculty advisory, directing programs, or outreach activities tied to teaching expertise.
- Mentor undergraduate, master, and doctoral-level students with inclusive, anti-racist, and decolonizing practices and methodologies in mind.

Environment
The Department of Health Systems and Population Health (HSPop) is a diverse department (60 regular faculty and 280 adjunct, affiliate, and clinical faculty) with faculty expertise in health care systems, health promotion, social determinants of health, health equity, health economics, and social science. In addition to collaborating with the ARCH Center, the successful candidates may have an opportunity to be affiliated with several centers within the department and University, including the Center for Health Innovation and Policy Science, the Health Promotion Research Center, the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice, and the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance.
The department and its affiliated centers provide additional opportunities and collaboration with other Seattle area institutions (Public Health – Seattle & King County, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute, a national Health Services Research and Development Center of Innovation at the VA, Seattle Children’s Hospital, etc.) and the Pacific Northwest Region is home to American Indian/Alaska Native, immigrant, Latinx, and sexual minority communities, and many of our faculty have longstanding partnerships with organizations working in these communities.
The School of Public Health has five departments: Health Systems and Population Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health, and Global Health. Depending on the interests and qualifications of the successful candidate, an adjunct appointment may be considered with other UW departments or affiliate institutions.
