The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) is investigating possible rabies exposure to humans after a litter of kittens was found on the Tuskegee University campus.

The kittens were taken from campus to a veterinarian practice in Auburn. One of the kittens from the litter became ill and was tested for rabies.

The kitten tested positive for rabies while the other three kittens from the litter tested negative.

One of the kittens from the litter on Tuskegee’s campus was taken to Georgia. ADPH reached out to Georgia public health authorities who were able to locate the kitten and submit it to a veterinary clinic for observation.

The people who were exposed are currently undergoing preventative vaccination. ADPH could not provide any additional medical details about the people who were exposed.
