Woman nearly dies delivering triplets, doesn’t remember giving birth

TOMBALL, Texas (KHOU) – A mother in Texas nearly died delivering triplets. She said she doesn’t remember giving birth at all.

Marisa Christie and her husband have a bit of a chaotic life, considering they now have four kids under the age of 5.

After she gave birth to the couple’s triplet girls in late August, Christie flatlined at multiple points in a 45-minute time span.

Her husband, Dylan, said the moment was an emotional rollercoaster for him.

“It was the toughest moment of my life going from the most beautiful experience in seeing our baby girls for the first time to, ‘Oh my gosh, my wife is … they’re doing CPR on her,’” he said.

Dr. Amber Samuel is Marisa Christie’s maternal fetal medicine physician. She said the mom survived an extremely rare post-birth complication called amniotic fluid embolism.

“Some exposure that causes the mom’s body to react like a really bad allergic reaction,” Samuel said.

The complication led to Dylan Christie making the call for his wife to get a life-saving hysterectomy.

When she eventually woke up, Marisa Christie said she had no recollection of giving birth.

“My family took lots of photos and videos of me when I was in the hospital, which helped a lot to be able to kind of have reality hit,” she said.

That reality included relearning how to walk and celebrating the baby girls’ graduating from the NICU.

Marisa Christie’s ICU nurses along with the NICU nurses celebrated how far the family had come amid the complications.

“I don’t think I would have been alive if I had not been at that hospital,” she said.
