Chronic Health Conditions

Each Center School District school has a nurse designated to provide case management and care for students with chronic (e.g., diabetes, asthma) and acute (e.g., concussion, broken bones) health conditions requiring treatment or accommodation during school. Please inform the school nurse of a chronic health condition and all emergency medications prescribed for your child. 

 *Important  Note: All student-occupied buildings in the Center School District are equipped with

• Prefilled epinephrine auto syringes (to treat severe allergic reactions),

• Asthma-related rescue medications (to treat asthmatic or breathing emergencies) and

• Naloxone (brand name Narcan, to treat opioid-related drug overdoses).

The school nurse or another employee trained and supervised by the school nurse may administer these medications when they believe, based on training, that a student is having a serious or life-threatening reaction or episode. A prescription or written permission from a parent/guardian is not necessary to administer these medications in an emergency situation. In the case of emergency, if parents/guardians cannot be reached, emergency medical care will be obtained, including transportation via ambulance if needed.

OPT OUT: Parents/Guardians who want to OPT OUT of having emergency medication administered to their child may do so by notifying their child’s school nurse annually upon enrollment.
