Recognizing the myriad of pre-migration and post-resettlement stressors and the impact of displacement and trauma on emotional well-being, the Refugee Behavioral Health Program provides supportive and culturally sensitive services to refugees and newcomers. Through collaborative efforts with health professionals, cultural liaisons, and community organizations, the program aims to reduce stigma, increase access to care, and empower individuals to navigate and overcome the emotional challenges of their unique circumstances.

Focus areas:

  • Behavioral Health Literacy:
    • Focuses on improving the understanding and awareness of behavioral health and emotional wellness to decrease stigma about, and increase access to behavioral health services.
  • Coordinating behavioral health care:
    • Serves as a bridge between different elements of the healthcare system, promoting a seamless and integrated approach to behavioral health care. The program also prioritizes providing cultural humility training for service providers.
  • Wellness and Adjustment groups:
    • Provides a safe space to share experiences, learn from each other, and acquire practical skills for navigating life transitions.
