HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is investigating the first case of measles in unincorporated Harris County this year.

According to HCPH, the case was confirmed by a commercial laboratory and the case involves a child who is under the age of 18.

HCPH said the child’s identity will remain confidential, but they live in Northwest Harris County and have no travel history.

The agency said they are awaiting a secondary confirmation by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) which is standard protocol.

The last confirmed report of measles in unincorporated Harris County was in 2019, where four individuals were treated. As of April 1, DSHS has reported 422 cases of measles across the state.
