How many cases of COVID-19 are there in Waterloo region?

There was 86 new positive virus cases reported for a total of 16 621 positive cases of COVID-19 in the region, 33 of which are currently hospitalized. Among the cases currently hospitalized in the region for the virus, 20 entered an intensive care unit.

There is 3 454 case of a variant identified in the region of Waterloo, with 3 042 case of variant B.1.1.7 (UK), 11 case of B.1.351 (first detected in South Africa), 35 case of B.1.617 (first detected in India) and 60 case of P.1 (first detected in Brazil).

There was a total of 501 951 COVID-19 tests administered (updated Tuesday and Friday).

258 deaths have been reported among people who test positive for the virus.

An outbreak was reported at Bilingual Montessori Trillium in Kitchener on Wednesday, with two cases confirmed. On Thursday, an outbreak of five cases was declared in a general office.

Transmission of the virus is highest in the region in close contact cases, where 7 615 have been reported.

In the rest of the cases, 5,045 were acquired through community transmission, 3,590 the cases were acquired by epidemic, 311 cases contracted with COVID-19 while traveling.

The highest number of cases in Waterloo region are among adults in their twenties with 4,175. Thirties represent 2,764 of cases, while those in their 40s represent 2 231 cases from the region. 814 children under the age of nine have tested positive, and 1,652 between 10 and 19 years old.
