Schoolgirls risk hepatitis and HIV in a new TikTok trend that sees them piercing their noses and their friends’ noses with a 99p device, it has been reported.
Discounted needle kit purchased from online Chinese giant SHEIN without the need for ID is shared between girls before and during school, leading sharp medical experts to warn of the very real risk infections transmitted through the blood.
Face masks are then used to cover DIY piercings in class.
The viral trend was born in the United States with the single use disposable ear piercing tool delivered within days from the site.

Experts as well warn the risk of infection that buggy piercings can lead to nerve damage and permanent scarring, The Sun pays off.
Hundreds of videos on TikTok show the number of young girls, many of whom are under the age required to perform the procedure legally, jumping on the viral trend.
The small plastic gun is shipped with an alcohol swab but no safety instructions from SHIEN, a fast fashion giant that sells 30,000 products in the UK every day.
The company adds 1,000 new products per day and ships to 220 countries.
It became a huge success, with annual sales of £ 11 billion, but criticized the theft of designs and the delivery of shoddy products.
A 41-year-old mother from Norfolk was furious to learn that her 14-year-old daughter had her nose pierced by a friend at school.
She had already promised to take him to a pro when she was 16 and after seeing the amateur effort she took him out and informed the school.
UK Professional Piercers Association President Lola Slider said SHEIN should be banned from selling the products.
She said she was shocked that the product could be sold without age verification or regulation as her industry demands such strict controls.
Reviews and comments on the page advocate shared use, Ms Slider said, adding that SHEIN should take responsibility for the damage they cause with unavoidable hospitalizations.
Patientaccess.com GP and Clinical Director Dr Sarah Jarvis said: “If you share it with friends there is a risk of transmitting blood-borne diseases like hepatitis. You are more likely to get infected because you may not have sterilized your ear in exactly the same way.
“The risk of sepsis is small, it is a theoretical risk. It is a theoretical risk but the risk of local infection is much worse. If they share with other people, I would definitely say the biggest risk is, you know, HIV or hepatitis. ”
She added that while hepatitis C is curable, hepatitis B is not and can lead to long-term problems such as cirrhosis and liver failure.
TikTok and SHEIN declined to comment.
