A bartender in tears described how her appearance impacted how she is treated virally by customers TIC Tac.
According to Cassidy Lane, who uses the username @body_positive_barman on TikTok, her whole life “changed” when she won weight while receiving help for her eating disorder after the pandemic, because she discovered that people were starting to treat her rudely.
Responding to a TikTok about “nice privilege,” Lane said, “So I work in the service industry, that’s right, I’m a bartender, and if you didn’t know your appearance influences it a lot, whether it’s about tips or how people treat you, it just is.
Lane then started to cry as she told viewers how she’s been treated since she gained weight, revealing that “people don’t even look you in the eye anymore” and “they’re not nice to you”.
According to Lane, she found out she was receiving the worst treatment since gaining weight from men, with the 28-year-old explaining that she approached clients and received positive responses, while the customers now order from her without exchanging jokes.
In the TikTok, Lane revealed that the difference in how she is treated due to her weight makes her feel “desperate”, continuing, “Like, am I ever going to be worth more than my looks?”
In the video caption, Lane added, “We can all pretend it’s not true, but we know it is.”
Since it went live two days ago, Lane’s video has since been viewed more than 4.6 million times, with her experience resonating with hundreds of viewers.
“My weight has fluctuated my whole life. I am treated 100% better when I weigh less, ”commented one person.
Another said: “THANKS for your vulnerability. It’s been so heavy on my heart lately.
“Yeah, eye contact was the first thing I noticed too,” someone else wrote.
The TikTok also elicited a response from plus size body positivity model Tess Holliday, who commented, “I believe you.”
This isn’t the first time Lane has raised awareness of the need for body positivity, as she frequently posts the importance of self-acceptance on Instagram, with the bartender captioning one photo: “He doesn’t there is no “fault” that exists that is unworthy of your love.
