About vaccines
There are currently two COVID-19 vaccines available in Australia: Pfizer and AstraZeneca. You will receive the vaccine recommended for your age and other eligibility and clinical criteria.
You need 2 doses of the same vaccine at 2 appointments to complete the vaccination.
- When you receive your first dose, make sure you have made an appointment for the second dose.
- It is recommended that Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses be administered at least 3 weeks apart.
- It is recommended that the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses be administered 12 weeks apart.

Advice on Pfizer and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Australian government
the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is the preferred vaccine for people aged 16 to 59.
the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine can be used in adults aged 60 years and older or for those under 60 years of age when Pfizer vaccine is not available and the benefits clearly outweigh the risks to that person. You should talk to your GP (doctor) to understand the risks and benefits.
People of any age without contraindications who received their first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine without any serious adverse events should receive the second dose.
